Poe invented modern physics. As I point out in the Scarriets “Poe and the Big Bang:” modern physics abandons sacred axioms of Newton’s. Poe—in 1848—before Einstein, before the paradigm shifts which began to occur around 1890, does precisely this, and not arbitrarily, but boldly and systematically— the ‘big bang’ not super-imposed, but existing substantially in Poe’s scheme, the ‘big bang,’ unknown in Poe’s day, and now accepted among physicists. Even Einstein thought the universe was static, and after Hubble, Einstein had to admit he was wrong (and Poe, with the help of his contemporary, Doppler, was proved correct) so perhaps Einstein should have taken “Eureka” a little more seriously when he first read that work.
