Poem from a fan: There was a girl called Viv Albertine The prettiest punk youve ever seen She wrote a book of the days of old The greatest story ever told With tales of Sid, Mick and Johnny Rotten And lots of punks I had forgotten With the guitar , Mick lent a hand And very soon she had her own band The Flowers of Romance - what a great name The music world , would never be the same The Slits were the original girl power of their age Years before the Spice Girls became all the rage Breaking new ground is never easy to do Hence it is the territory , of only the few People ridicule you and stop and stare But I bet they wished they had the balls to dare With a look that would surely beguile Madonna looked, learned and stole her style Now Madge maybe the queen of pop But when it comes to nicking , she doesnt stop At 56 she flashes her knockers for all to see But hey - Viv did that back in 83 Post punk - the years have been very hard Its difficult to get through life without being scarred But look, Viv is going strong & still being naughty She may be sixty but doesnt look a day over forty Shes made it through with a lovely daughter And lives the lessons that life has taught her Fight for what you believe is right And play that Fender with all your might She speaks words of wisdom and never holds back The punk spirit is very much alive - always attack Shes now got a pink guitar and still got a sense for fashion For Clothes/Music/Boys - she never lost the passion So now I wish her well What does the future hold - who can tell ? Ive made my resolution for the New Year Its only 24 days , until its here To watch Viv play or to hear her read For there are not many, of her creed ( I know Cut was 79 not 83 but it didnt rhyme !! ) by Clive Townshend
