Pokémon Adventures: Orange Chapter 8: Old rivals, new battle! “ Prinplup, use Bubblebeam!” Flame called out as he chased after Samuel and his Team Rocket grunts. Prinplup’s mouth glew a light blue colour, shooting about 10 baby blue bubbles. “ Prrriiin, plupplupplupplup!” The bubbles hit the machine, and to no avail, did nothing. Samuel reached over, while running, and pressed a button on the machine. Elekid tried using Thunderbolt to break free, but also was unsuccessful. “ Ele... Kiiiidd!” As Samuel pressed the button, two more large mechanical arms shot out. Both balled into fists, and hit Flame and Prinplup right in the gut. They launched into the air, smacking the ground with a decent amount of force. Elekid saw this, and gritted his teeth. Elekid’s eyes flashed red, as he gripped onto the metal fingers holding him in place. “ Ele..... Ele.... Eleee...... Elekiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiid!” A very large stream of lightning shot down from the sky, striking Elekid, the machine, Samuel, the two grunts, and the gangs Pokémon. The machine started smoking. Samuel and the two grunts were sent flying into the bushes and trees. Flame recalled Prinplup, watching the whole scene unfold. He stood up, and ran towards Elekid. “ Ele! Ele! Look I’m ok!” Elekid’s body lit up with electricity as he faced Samuel and the grunts, but before he could blast them off, Flame tackled Elekid, and hugged him tight in his arms. The electricity shocked Flame instead. Even so, Flame stood up, and Elekid passed out from exhaustion. “ Elekid...” Just then, he heard girls calling. “ Flame! Flame!” Sara and Kassandra were running down the path towards him. “ Are you ok?!” Sara asked, as she inspected Flame’s wounds from Team Rocket’s attacks and Elekid’s. Flame looked down at Elekid, “ I’m fine. But he isn’t, I need to get him to a Pokémon center, stat. “ Flame looked back, and realized; Elekid’s attack knocked out all of the gangs Pokémon. Kassandra shouted, “ My poor babies!!” Sara frowned, and looked at Flame and Elekid, both her and Kassandra recalling their Pokémon. Sara hugged Flame and Elekid. “ I’m glad you guys aren’t hurt badly.. “ Flame nodded, and turned around, running down the path towards Vermillion. “ Elekid.. stay with me buddy.. I’m going to get you some help....” Elekid lie on a bed in the Pokémon Center at Vermillion City. Flame was sitting in a chair next to the bed as Nurse Joy tended to him. Sara sat next to Flame, and Kassandra next to her. “ Elekid has sustained serious damage, it’s good you got him attention when you did. “ Nurse Joy murmured. Flame reached up and grabbed Elekid’s hand. “ He will be ok though... right?” Nurse Joy clutched her clipboard, and walked towards the door. “ Of course he will, with the proper medical treatment; Elekid will be A-ok!” She smiled and left the room. Flame looked down at Elekid. “ Hang in there buddy, everything is gonna be alright. You can make it through this. “ Nurse Joy had left the door open, and Flame heard a familiar voice, He got up from his seat and walked to the back of the counter. It was Scott. On his shoulder sat a new Pokémon Flame’d never seen before; Magby. His Treeko was nowhere in sight. Scott spotted Flame immediately, and smirked. “ Ha, look. The loser. “ Flame frowned, and ignored his comment. “ Where is your Treeko?” Scott laughed. “ Treeko? You mean my Grovyle? He evolved. He’s much stronger now, better than he was as a Treeko. “ Scott reached into his back pocket, and pulled out his badge case, opening it to reveal he had obtained the Thunder Badge. Flame’s eyes lit up. “ Wow! That’s the Thunder Badge!” Scott smirked, and stowed away his badge case. “ I got it, just using Magby here. I thought I’d be nice and show you something you’re never going to be able to achieve. “ Scott snickered. Flame gritted his teeth, and Nurse Joy turned around, smiled at Flame, and went to the back. Flame assumed she went to check on Elekid. “ So where is your fail Pokémon, Elekid?” Flame glared at Scott. “ He’s being treated. “ Scott laughed again, but this time, it was almost like a cocky, arrogant laugh. “ Pfft. Losing as usual, I see. “ Flame’s face flushed red. “ Fine! When Elekid heals, I challenge you and your Magby to a battle!” Scott looked at Flame, puzzled. “ Really? You want to lose? AGAIN..?” Flame smiled, and slammed his fist on the counter. “ We’ll see who loses this time! Tomorrow, 12 ‘o clock! There is an area right behind the Pokémon Center where we can battle. “ Scott nodded, and Magby blew flame’s into the air. “ You’re on. “ Scott said as he walked out of the Pokémon Center. That night Flame slept in the chair next to Elekid’s bed. Kassandra and Sara had their own rooms in the Pokémon Center. Flame looked over at the Pokéball clock. It was 10 PM. He shifted his gaze over to the window, his face showered in the moonlight. “ I can beat Scott... I know it...” He thought to himself before drifting off to sleep. Morning seemed like it took forever to come, but when Sara had woken Flame up, he knew it was time to make Scott pay for his insults. Elekid had awakened as well, and was happily spinning his arms in circles at the foot of his bet to generate electricity. Flame’s mouth curved itself into a smile. “ Hey buddy! You’re doing great!” “ Ele, Elekid!” Sara smiled, and patted Elekid on his head. She looked to Flame, “ Are you sure you want to do this?” Flame nodded, and lifted Elekid to his backpack. “ WE are sure WE want to do this. Scott deserves a good whooping. “ Sara smiled, and patted Flame’s back. “ Ok.. I’ll be rooting for you. “ Flame grinned. His cheeks grew a crimson colour, as he walked out of the back door of the Pokémon Center. Scott was already standing on his side of the battlefield, despite it not being time to battle. He looked up at Flame, Magby standing in front of him. “ Hahaha! I didn’t think you’d show!” There were benches, and Flame looked over to see Kassandra, Sara and his mother sitting on one of them. His mother smiled, and waved enthusiastically at him. “ Hi sweety!” Flame immediately snapped at her. “ Mom!? What are you doing here!?” She giggled, and set her hands in her lap. Sara and Kassandra smiled. “ I figured I would get out of the house, so I came to Vermillion city to participate in the festival!” Flame stood there, speechless. Scott finally broke the silence, “ Ready to lose in front of your /Moommmyy/?” Flame’s mother looked over at Scott, then at Flame. “ You can do it honey!” He gritted his teeth, and walked over to his side. Elekid hopped down, and placed himself in his signature fighting stance on the battlefield. Nurse Joy trotted over, and stood on the side. “ I’ll be the referee!” She called out. “ This will be a one-on-one match. Begin!” Scott smirked that arrogant smile. “ Magby, Ember do it now!” Magby’s stomach puffed up, and retracted as it released about twelve small flares, sending them towards Elekid. “ Elekid, Thunderbolt!” Elekid’s body became engulfed in yellow electricity. The electricity shot off the top of Elekid’s head in a bolt like fashion, dispersing all of the flares from Magby’s Ember. The Thunderbolt struck Magby, smashing it into the ground. “ Magbyyyyyyyy!” Scott laughed. Magby immediately stood up, no visible damage to it’s body. Magby blew out a small flame from it’s mouth. “ Ha! Weak! Magby’s Special Defence is superb! Use Flamethrower!” Magby sucked in it’s gut, throwing it’s head forward as a large stream of fire was released from it’s mouth. “ Elekid, jump up high and dodge it!” Elekid hopped into the air, but regardless, the gigantic Flamethrower hit Elekid, sending him flying into the air. “ Oh no, Elekid!” Kassandra, Sara, and Flame’s mother gasped. “ My baby boy!” Flame’s mother cried out. Flame looked over. “ Moooommm!” “Ha! Weak as ever! Magby, finish him with Ember!” Magby exerted ten more small fire flares, each of them hitting their mark: Elekid. “ Eleeeeee!” Elekid hit the ground with a substantial amount of force. Flame’s hot-shot attitude quickly turned into despair. “ Ele, c’mon! You have to get up!” Elekid sat up, and slammed his fists together. “ Ele, Elekid!” “ There ya go bud!” Scott was obviously taken back by Elekid’s determination. “ Hmph, still want more? Fine! Magby use Flamethrower to finish him off!” Magby released yet another massive stream of fire. “ Elekid, slide under it and use Low Kick!” Elekid ran towards the Flamethrower, and just before it hit him, he hit the ground, using a classic baseball slide as his left foot glew white. He slammed into Magby’s leg, reddening it from the impact. Scott snorted. “ What!? No!” Flame’s mother stood up, and cheered. “ Wooo! Go my baby boy go!” Beside her, Kassandra and Sara giggled. “ Great, now uppercut Magby with a Thunderpunch Ele!” Elekid’s right fist sparked with yellow electricity. He slammed his right fist under Magby’s jaw, sending it flying into the air. “ Elee... kiiiidd!” “ Maaagbyyy!” Sara stood up with Flame’s mom, and cheered with her. “ Go Flame and Elekid!” Scott gritted his teeth. “ No way! How!? Grrr.... Magby, use your momentum and hit Elekid with a Fire Punch!” Magby turned itself around in mid-air, it’s right fist completely engulfed in a blazing fire. “ Great job, Thunderpunch one more time Ele!” Elekid stood up, his right fist again sparking with electricity. Both Magby’s Fire Punch, and Elekid’s Thunderpunch met with a massive impact. The collision created a large explosion, completely blowing everyone around back a big. When the smoke and dust cleared, it was obvious Elekid and Magby had both sustained a substantial amount of damage, as both were breathing heavy, their bodies covered in bruises and scratches. “ Magby, don’t you dare faint!” But just like that, Magby and Elekid fell over, both of them knocked out. Scott yelled into the sky. “ NOOOOOOOO! How could I lose to such a weakling!? “ He pulled out Magby’s Pokéball, and pointed it at Magby, returning it. “ Magby, return. You’re so weak, you need to get stronger! Flame, your win was a fluke. Next time we meet, I /will/ win. Mark my words. “ Flame tipped his hat at Scott, and scooped Elekid up off the ground. Elekid looked up at Flame. “ Ele.. “ Flame smiled, and hugged him tightly. “ You did great buddy! Neither of us have anything to be ashamed about. You were great!” Sara, Kassandra, and Flame’s mother were all crowded around him. “ Oh you two did great!” “ You two were wonderful!” Were most of the things Flame heard. Although.. he wasn’t paying much attention, because his focus was on Scott as he walked away. Flame thought to himself, “ How could someone treat their Pokémon like that...?” Flame, Elekid, Kassandra, and Sara were all sitting front row in a small theatre room. They were all there to watch Flame’s mother compete in the Pokémon contest, at the annual festival. Sara leaned over to whisper to Flame. “ I didn’t know your mom was in to Pokémon contests..!” Flame shrugged. “ Yea, her and Flare have tons of ribbons in case back at home, from all sorts of different regions. “ “ Flary?” Sara asked. “ Flary is our house pet, and also my mom’s starter Pokémon, Flareon. “ Sara pursed her lips into a small ‘o’ shape, and looked back towards the stage. “ Ele, Elekid!” Flame looked down, and shook his head up and down. “ I know, I’m starving too. But, we gotta be here for mom. “ The curtains rose, revealing Flame’s mother in a lovely, pink dress. Her hair all poofed up. Flareon stood in front of her. The announcer stood on the side of the stage, and held the microphone to his mouth. “ And now, the stunning beauty, the magnificent Alice, and her Flareon, Flary!” Alice waved at the crowd, and Flareon flaunted about. “ Let’s get this started Flary! Use Swift!” Flareon whipped it’s tail from side-to-side, about 6 large, shining golden stars shoot out, “ Now Ember on the stars!” Flareon puffed out her chest, and unleashed six small flares of fire. The Ember flares completely engulf the stars. Flame looked over at Sara; She was completely astonished. The crowed roared its approval. “Ok Flary, finish it with Fire Spin!” The fire-covered stars glistened, as Flary rose up on her hind legs, and spit-forth a massive swirley cone of fire. Small glitter particles rain down upon the crowd. The whole scene dissolves; Alice and Flareon trot around the stage, waving her hand. “ Let’s hear it for Alice and her Flareon, Flary!” The crowd screamed. Flame sunk in his seat, clogging his ears with his index-fingers. He looked at Sara, she was standing up, clapping and cheering. The curtains closed again, and the announcer walked back on stage. The curtains rose once again; There were about four other competitors, Alice, Flame’s mother being at the end of the row. The announcer held up a card, staring at it. “ And... it looks like our winner is..... Alice and Flareon!” Alice threw her hands in the air, and Flame actually smiled. He stood up, clapping loudly. “ Yea! Go mom!” Alice went and stood on a podium, holding a large golden trophy the announcer had given her. After everyone was dismissed, Flame, Sara, and Kassandra had met Alice back stage. “ Mom!” Flame called out, running towards her. “ You and Flary were amazing!” “ Yes you were Miss, very good!” Were the comments Flame had heard Kassandra and Sara say. Alice smiled at all of them. “ Thank you very much, now what do you all say we go out to dinner, hmm? My treat!” Flame grabbed his stomach, as did Elekid. “ Ele, Elekid!” Flame reached up and patted Elekid’s head. “ I know bud, me too! I’m starving!” And with that, Flame dashed out of the back door, Alice, Sara, and Kassandra chasing after him....
