Police Commissioner Bill Bratton called frustration in New York and across the country surrounding policing the tip of the iceberg during an appearance Sunday on NBCs Meet the Press. This isnt just about policing, he said. Theres so many national issues that have to be addressed, including income disparity. The New York police chief also said trust issues between the black community and officers was a real problem. Theres no denying that among the black community that there are those concerns, he said. We have a lot of talking were going to have to do here to understand all sides of this issue. Bratton commended the New York Police Department for the remarkable restraint shown in the past several weeks during protests over police actions and said, I think its probably a riff thats going to go on a while longer.
