Police Stops Governor Amaechi From Entering Rivers Government House A detachment of heavily armed policemen from the River State police command has stopped the convoy of Governor Rotimi Amaechi from entering the River State Government House. The Governor who was returning from an undisclosed location met an army of policemen at the gate of his official residence who prevented him from driving into the premises. It is not immediately clear what necessitates the action of the police, but it is not unconnected with the crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party both in the state and at the national level. Amaechi is one of the dissident Governors that broke away from the Peoples Democratic Party to form a faction of the party called the ‘New’ PDP. He has also been having a running battle with some elements in the state believed to have the support of President Goodluck Jonathan. Earlier today, party faithfuls loyal to the governor under the auspices of the ‘New’ PDP opened a parallel secretariat of the party in Port Harcourt, the state capital. The Secretariat was sealed 20 minutes after it was opened.
