Police are appealing for information after a 69-year-old man was assaulted in Dearne Valley Country Park last month. At around 9am on Tuesday 21 October, the 69-year-old man was walking his two dogs in the park, which is situated off Pontefract Road in Hoyle Mill. While walking his dogs on the footpaths next to the ponds near Rotherham Road, it is reported another man approached with a cocker spaniel. One of his dogs reportedly approached the spaniel, which ran away. The unknown man is then said to have tried to kick the 69-year-old’s dog. The two men are believed to have had a verbal argument. The unknown man allegedly assaulted the 69-year-old, grabbing him by the throat and striking him on the head with his own walking stick. The suspect is described as a white man in his 50s, around 5ft 10ins tall, of stocky build. He is described as having short dark hair that appeared to have hair gel in. He was reportedly wearing a dark three-quarter length jacket and spoke with a local accent. The suspect was walking a light brown cocker spaniel dog with a distinctive white stripe down the front of its face and a long tail.
