Police are appealing for information after a man was assaulted in a house in Atherton. At around 10.40pm on 16/04/2014, three men knocked on the door of a house on Warwick Road. When the 44-year-old man opened the door, one of the men asked who he was. He explained he was babysitting his granddaughter and asked who they were. One of the men then leant over the man and hit him on the head with an unknown object. The victim staggered into the living room and fell onto the sofa, before the offenders punched him seven times in the head and left. One man is described as white, 5ft 10in to 6ft tall, of medium build and wearing a black hooded top. The second man was white, 5ft 8in to 5ft 10in tall, of medium build, with short brown/ginger hair and he was wearing a blue and white patterned top. The third man has been described as white, 5ft8in to 5ft 10in tall, of medium build and wearing a cream coloured checked top. Detective Sergeant Neil Lawless of Wigan Division said: “A man opened his front door and was confronted by three men, who then forced their way into the house and viciously attacked him. “The victim suffered cuts to the head and is understandably very shaken by what happened, especially since his five-year-old granddaughter was in the house. “We’re urging anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area to contact police immediately. Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 7108 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
