Police are appealing for information the attempted armed robbery of a taxi driver in Waterloo yesterday. About 9.20am (Friday 11 July 2014), a 61-year-old man was driving a taxi south along Elizabeth Street when he was waved down by a man. The man instructed the driver take him to George Street, Redfern. On arrival, the passenger instructed the driver to continue driving to John Street, where the driver stopped the vehicle. Police have been told the male passenger then threatened the driver with a knife, demanding cash. The armed man then ran from the taxi empty handed. Officers attached to Redfern Local Area Command were notified of the incident and commenced investigations. As they continue their inquiries, they would like to speak to a man who may be able to assist them. He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, in his early 20s, about 170cm tall, of slim build, with pale skin and facial hair on his top lip. He was seen wearing a dark blue hooded jumper, dark blue sports pants and running shoes.
