Police are appealing for public assistance as they investigate a unit fire in Ramsgate this morning, which is believed to be suspicious. About 5.30am (Sunday 11 January 2015), emergency services were called to a unit on Chuter Avenue, responding to reports of a fire. It’s believed the fire originated at the door of the unit when those inside the unit were alerted via a fire alarm sounding. A neighbour attempted to control the blaze before officers attached to NSW Fire & Rescue arrived and extinguished the fire. Two women, aged 30 and 52, and a 5-month-old boy in the unit were uninjured. Minimal damage was caused to the unit and apartment block. Officers attached to St George Local Area Command commenced investigating the incident and initial inquiries have led police to believe the fire was lit deliberately. Anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area at the time of the incident or who has any information is urged to come forward and contact police via Crime Stoppers. Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: https://nsw.crimestoppers.au/ Information you provide will be treated in the strictest of confidence. We remind people they should not report crime information via our Facebook and Twitter pages.
