Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a cyclist was injured in the Newcastle area today. About 7.30am (Thursday 1st May 2014), a man, aged in his 40’s, was riding his bicycle west on Dumaresq Street at Hamilton. While he was riding through a roundabout at the intersection of Beaumont Street, he was clipped by a vehicle travelling north. The vehicle, which is described as a silver Commodore, was driven by a woman who stopped after the collision. The cyclist was assisted from the road by a passing driver and two female cyclists who left the scene prior to police arrival. Police from Newcastle Local Area Command were contacted, attended and commenced an investigation. The rider was taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment of a fractured ankle.
