Police are hunting an attacker who assaulted a man as he walked his dog in Farnworth. At around midnight on Friday 5 December 2014, the 32-year-old victim was walking his brown Labrador on Begonia Avenue. He was approached from behind and viciously assaulted by an unknown man. He managed to make it home, but then collapsed and was found by relatioves the following day. He was taken by ambulance to Hope Hospital and has had surgery on a serious head injury. He remains in a critical condition. The victim managed to get a brief view of his attacker before slipping into unconsciousness. He was male and bald. Detective Sergeant Craig Cuthbert, based at Farnworth, said: “The victim is in a very poorly state right now and we are hoping he can make a full recovery. “Given the victim has been largely unconscious since it happened we have no idea yet what, if anything led up to this attack. At this stage it looks to be completely unprovoked. “I now want to hear from anyone who may have information on what happened. Did you hear or see anything unusual in or around Begonia Avenue? Did you see a man running away from that area? “If so, please call police on 0161 856 5681 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
