Police attached to Coffs/ Clarence Local Area Command have arrested a man who was allegedly wanted for warrants after escaping police custody in December of last year. About 1.30am today (Sunday 19 January 2014), police were patrolling streets around Yamba, when they sighted a 27-year-old man wanted on a warrant. Police stopped their car and the man ran from police, falling about six metres down an embankment on Clarence Street. Police located the man who was laying on the ground unconscious suffering a cut to his face. NSW Ambulance serviced were called and treated the man. He was arrested at the scene and taken to Maclean Hospital. He was later flown to the Gold Coast Hospital where he is in a stable condition. A police officer also suffered injuries to his ribs as he attempted to scale the same embankment, and was taken to hospital for treatment. Police are continuing with their inquiries and it is expected the man will be extradited back to NSW to be charged.
