Police chief: Chepstow Road killers’ term deserved 1:20pm Friday 18th May 2012 in News By Ben Frampton - Crime reporter JAILED: Pawel Lysonik, left, and Kamil Semrau THE police officer leading the murder case where a Newport man was savagely beaten before being set on fire welcomed the 100 years handed out to the two killers and two others involved in the attack. Senior investigating officer in the murder of Ramunas Raulinautis, Superintendent Peter Jones, said the punishment fitted the nature of the crime. Supt Jones said police, speaking through an interpreter, were able to talk to Mr Raulinautis’ mother back in his home country of Lithuania after the sentences were handed out, and said she told him she was satisfied with the sentence. He added: “The injuries to Mr Raulinautis and the pain he must have suffered was horrendous, while we can’t bring him back, the sentence really does reflect the seriousness – this violence, displayed over a 48-hour period, has been significantly dealt with by the court.” Newport men Kamil Semrau and Pawel Lysonik were jailed for life for murdering Mr Raulinautis. Semrau, 28, of Chepstow Road, was given a minimum term of 30 years and Lysonik, 22, of Capel Crescent, was given 36 years. Lysonik was also given 15 years for the attempted murder of Stanislaw Galeza and seven years for arson, being reckless as to whether life was endangered after setting fire to the mattress the unconscious Mr Galeza was lying on in his home after three men beat him up. Lukas Kalkowski, 30, of Laundry Road, Pontypridd, and Stanislaw Gliszczynski, 31, of no fixed address, were each jailed for 17 years – three years for attempted GBH on Mr Galeza and 14 years for GBH with intent on Mr Raulinautis, to be served consecutively. Mr Raulinautis was found dying on a hotel forecourt on March 9, 2011. He died three days later in Swansea’s Morriston Hospital. He suffered brain damage, multiple rib fractures and a perforated bowel in the attack. Semrau also stamped on Mr Raulinautis’ head.
