Police continue to investigate and are reappealing for witnesses to an aircraft crash in the State’s Far North earlier in the week. About 9am (Monday 6 October 2014), emergency services were called to a property on Martins Lane, Knockrow, following reports that a small aircraft had crashed. Police from Richmond Local Area Command have been told that the ultra light aircraft appeared to stall before crashing to the ground. The pilot, a 73-year-old Ballina man, sustained multiple injuries. He was the sole occupant of the plane. He has been transported to Gold Coast Hospital where he remains in a serious condition. A crime scene was established at the location and examined by forensic specialists. Recreational Aviation Australia were notified and continue their enquiries to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the crash. Investigators continue to appeal for any witnesses to the incident that have not spoken to police, to come forward.
