Police have charged a man following an attempted armed robbery in south west Sydney. About 8.20pm yesterday (Saturday 1 February 2014), a man entered a service station on Macquarie Street, Liverpool, and assaulted a male customer with a screwdriver. The service station employee was then threatened with the screwdriver and the alleged offender demanded money. The employee locked himself in a rear room and alerted police. The offender ran from the location but returned to the store a short time later where he was arrested by police. The 22-year-old man was taken to Liverpool Police Station and charged with assault with intent to rob and armed with an offensive implement. He was refused bail and will appear in Parramatta Local Court today (Sunday 2 February 2014). The male customer, aged in his 40s, suffered a minor graze during the incident, but did not require medical attention.
