Police have detected a driver allegedly speeding through a school zone at Canley Heights yesterday afternoon. About 3:45pm (Wednesday 9 April 2014), officers attached to the Traffic and Highway Patrol were patrolling Cumberland Highway, when they observed a vehicle allegedly travelling at 110kph in a 40kph sign-posted zone. Police stopped the vehicle a short time later and spoke with the driver, a 37-year-old Bringelly man. The driver was issued with an infringement notice for exceeding the speed by more than 45kph, which carries a fine of $2341. The notice incurs a loss of six demerit points, with his driver’s licence also suspended for a period of six months. NSW Police Traffic and Highway Patrol Commander, Assistant Commissioner John Hartley said this kind of poor driver behaviour would not be tolerated, particularly when it occurs inside a school zone. It was fortunate our officers were able to intercept this vehicle and take prompt and efficient action. With our upcoming Easter road safety campaigns, those who choose to speed will receive a significant fine and can expect the loss of demerit points, their licence, and possibly even their vehicle, Assistant Commissioner Hartley said.
