Police have launched an investigation following the death of a woman after a crash at Mascot this evening. Just before 5pm (Thursday 15 May 2014), officers from Botany Bay Local Area Command were called to Wentworth Avenue, near the intersection of Sutherland Street, after reports of an injured woman at the location. Police have been told a woman was struck by a truck as she attempted to cross the street. She was assisted by NSW Ambulance Paramedics but died at the scene. She’s yet to be formally identified. The truck driver, a 25-year-old man, has been spoken to by police and will be taken to hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests. Traffic is being affected in the area, while emergency services carry out their inquiries at the scene; however diversions have been put in place. Drivers are therefore encouraged to avoid the area if possible. Investigations are continuing and a report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner. Police are urging anyone with information about this incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: https://www1.police.nsw.gov.au/. Information you provide will be treated in the strictest of confidence. We remind people they should not report crime information via our Facebook and Twitter pages.
