Police have urged residents in the West End of Aberdeen to be extra vigilant in locking their doors and securing their vehicles as the darker nights approach. Inspector Ian McKinnon of the West End Community Policing Team said that last year a number of vehicles were targeted which had unfortunately been left unlocked by their owners. He said: It is good people feel safe enough in this area to leave their vehicles unlocked, but Im looking to make it harder for those criminals and opportunistic thieves who may want to take advantage. Around this time last year we saw an increase in the number of thefts from insecure vehicles and I would like to again encourage everyone to take basic precautions to ensure you arent one of the unlucky ones. These are: • Lock your car on exiting • Keep items such as MP3 players or electricals out of view, or ideally not in your car at all • Be vigilant and report anyone suspicious or out of place Making sure everything is locked up is genuinely one of the best ways to protect your neighbourhood and deter criminals from coming back. The West End Community Policing Team will be continuing our regular patrols over the coming months and if you need any advice about safety, feel free to make contact with us via the Police Scotland website. Call 101 for non-emergencies and general enquiries, in an emergency call 999. If you have information about a crime you can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
