Police in Barry are warning shoppers to be vigilant and to take appropriate crime prevention measures following a spate of purse thefts at Morrisons supermarket. Neighbourhood Beat Manager PC Nicola Owen said: “We have seen a number of purse thefts from handbags recently and we believe opportunist thieves are walking around supermarkets and trying their luck on handbags left in trollies unattended. I would urge shoppers to be mindful of where your purse is; do not leave your bag unattended and zips open. By leaving your purse on display you are significantly increasing the chances of you becoming a victim of crime.” PC Owen added: “Officers have stepped up patrols in the store and surrounding areas in order to prevent and detect further offences.”
