Police in Ferguson MO just arrested two reporters from the Huffington Post and the Washington Post today. The charge: Recording Police Proceedings. The following is from the Huffington Post article explaining the horror of todays events: Ryan Reilly, the justice correspondent for The Huffington Post, and Washington Post reporter Wesley Lowery were working in a McDonalds when a SWAT team suddenly invaded the restaurant. After being told to stop recording the proceedings, and refusing, both men were then violently arrested. (Recording police officers is a legal act.) Lowery was shoved into a soda machine. An officer slammed Reillys head against glass. Not only are Police militarized to an inappropriately extreme degree but they are also overreaching their mandates to protect the citizens of the United States. Instead they are simply watching their own backs. To be clear, it is perfectly legal to record by photo or video any police activity. The reporters were released almost immediately by the Chief of Police but we can already see that Law Enforcement has little to no respect for the rights of U.S. Citizens. This has to stop.
