Police in West Lothian are appealing for witnesses after a young mother pushing a buggy was robbed in Livingston. The incident happened around 12.05pm on Tuesday, 6 May, near to St Johns Hospital. The 21-year-old was walking pushing her infant son in a buggy while her 20-month-old son walked in front. As they walked down The Loan Path adjacent to Columbia Avenue, they passed a play park when two male youths riding a bike approached at speed and knocked the toddler over before cycling away. While the woman checked on her son the youths returned and attempted to steal her handbag. The victim struggled with the suspects and retained her bag but was robbed of her purse, which contained a three-figure sum. Both males then made off from the area and were lost to sight. Officers are now asking for anyone who can assist with their enquiries to come forward. The first suspect is described as white, between 13 and 15-years-old, 5ft 5ins tall with a slim build and short cropped fair hair. He was wearing a dirty grey hooded top and red bottoms. The second suspect is described as white, between 13 and 15-years-old, around 5ft 2ins tall with a slim build and untidy dark hair. He was wearing a dark hooded top and dark grey jogging bottoms. Inspector Ali Hutchens said: This was a despicable and opportunistic robbery where the suspects have shown no consideration for the well-being of a young child. Fortunately neither the toddler nor his mother were injured but were both left very distressed and we are keen to hear from anyone who can help us trace these youths. Anyone who was in the area and witnessed anything suspicious, or who has information relevant to this investigation is asked to contact police immediately.
