Police reveal new scam targeting women. KAMPALA Police yesterday added another trend of tricks used by con men to rip-off the public, this time using relationships to target unsuspecting women to steal their money by promising them capital to start businesses. With more than 10 complaints filed at different police stations, four of them at Old Kampala Police Station, the trend is believed to have hit the city a month ago. Reports indicate that the con men demand for money of between Shs500,000 and Shs10 million. The Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Mr Ibin Ssenkumbi, said there are many women who have fallen prey to these con men but fear to report the matter as it involves intimacy. The Akatakweba yesterday, reported the latest 10 tricks used by con men to rip off the public. According to the complaints, the con men target their victims from taxi stages, board the same taxi, seat next to their prey and begin making phone calls about their prosperous businesses that involve huge amounts of money. Contacts are exchanged and follow up phone calls made before a relationship is proposed. The men then promise the victims businesses and advise them to contribute to the cause. “The con men only have to convince their targets that they have a lot of money and the women begin to trust them,” Mr Ssenkumbi said.
