Policy and Practice Issue 18 Call for Contributors Policy and Practice is a bi-annual, peer reviewed, online development education journal published by the Centre for Global Education since 2005 and funded by Irish Aid. The journal aims to provide a space for development educators to reflect on their practice, debate the policy context in which they operate, provide opportunities to share research and facilitate discourse between practitioners operating in different regions and education sectors. Policy and Practice has established a reputation for quality articles that address current trends in development education practice and strengthen the academic base of the sector. It also provides an important dialogic space for the exchange of ideas between contributors that strengthens practice and enhances capacity in the sector. In 2012, the journal web site had more than 85,000 visitors from 198 countries in the global North and South. The Centre is inviting contributions to Issue 18 of the journal, to be published in Spring 2014, on the theme ‘Development Education and Film’. The aim of this issue is to debate an under-explored and yet important medium for teaching and learning about global issues. We are interested in receiving articles that discuss the use of film as an educational medium from film festivals on specific issues or regions to visual aids tailored to formal and informal education sectors. Authors could evaluate the representation of development issues and developing countries on film or explore the process of film-making and how this impacts on structure, content and messaging. Contributors could also assess different forms of film from shorts to features to documentaries. How effective are they in supporting development education practice and enhancing the knowledge of learners? Articles should be submitted by Friday, 20 December 2013.
