Political Night Cap: Can the South West stay away from the presidential and VP tickets? The South West geo political zone is one of the strong holds of the APC (probably the strongest) and the party must win decisively there to have any hope of clinching the presidency. Glaring political reasons why the south west should stay away from the presidency: 1.The possible candidates from the zone are Muslims and it will be difficult to pair such with a strong Christian running mate from the north because non exists. 2.After Obasanjos presidency that elapsed in 2007, it will be difficult convincing other zones to cede the presidency to the zone after 8yrs. 3.The zone is already a strong hold of the party hence other zones must be brought on board to garner the required votes to defeat the incumbent. Way forward: adopt the Ewe Volta region of Ghana model The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) is strongly rooted in the Volta region of Ghana. President Jerry Rawlings, an Ewe from the Volta region founded the party and ruled democratically for 8 yrs under the NDC umbrella. Since then the party has gone through 4 elections and preparing for the 5th without a presidential candidate from the Volta region. This not withstanding, the party still wins the region by a large margin (over 80%). Can the south west play this role?
