Political Science syllabus of every University should dedicate one full section on Kautilya/Chanakya/Vishnugupta.... Kautilyas huge work is extremely under rated in our current syllabus... The more I read Kautilya now, more I get awed by the objectivity, reason, empiricism and methods of politics that Kautilya dealt with.... Another fact is that I have heard in formal as well as informal discussions about equating Machiavelli and Kautilya.... Views are expressed as if they can be equated on the same plane.... But the fact is they cannot be.... The vantage points of Machiavellian and Kautilyan discourses are very different.... Not undermining Machiavelli, I must say that Kautilya is very different and extremely different than the way we are taught generally about him and his taught... The more I read Kautilya the more I see many thoughts and philosophical bases involved, which we attribute to other thinkers who dates much younger to him.... Finally Kautilya is a thinker who had one of the most thorough knowledge about India during his time.... The patterns have not changed much.....
