Politicians, it seems to me, take themselves way too seriously. - TopicsExpress

Politicians, it seems to me, take themselves way too seriously. Mrs Mbabazi says a rift between the president and her husband can cause a lot of problems for this country. Really? If these power-hungry men cannot agree on who should be president, why should that become a serious problem for us Ugandans. Precious few Ugandans have benefited from the fact that Museveni and Mbabazi have been in power for 28 years. These politicians families and people who sing their praises and brown-nose them are the real beneficiaries. If they died tomorrow, we would still have a country called Uganda (with all its problems); the sun would still continue to rise from the east, and politicians would be jostling and scrambling to take over. Mrs Mbabazis complaint is even hard to understand. There is always a price to pay when you join politics of the kind we have in Uganda. And that price pales into insignificance compared to the benefits politicians reap. Perhaps if the Mbabazis were not in politics, we would not even know they exist; they probably would not be staying in Kampalas plush suburb. So if, as is widely believed, they do have presidential ambitions, they should be ready for anything thrown at them by those who still want to be in power. Thats how, for the most part, politics works in many places. And, finally, if the accusations against the head of the police are true, few Ugandans will be surprised. Our police force is not professional in the real sense of the world. The former head of the CID, Elizabeth Kutesa, brought bogus rape charges against Kizza Besigye. We all know she did (and she did not even resign) because prosecutors did not find the smallest jot of evidence incriminating Besigye. It was all politics, dirty politics. Kutesa even went on to work for Interpol despite attempts by Besigye to petition the organisation in protest against her appointment.
