Politics: Republicans Mad That Obama Mentioned Ferguson in U.N. Speech President Obama tells the United Nations that recent protests in Ferguson, Missouri show America must still work to resolve racial tensions, but that the U.S. welcomes scrutiny and is always striving to improve. Here is a part of the speech the POTUS delivered at the UN that has caused a lot of noise from the Republicans ......... I realize that America’s critics will be quick to point out that at times we too have failed to live up to our ideals; that America has plenty of problems within its own borders. This is true. In a summer marked by instability in the Middle East and Eastern Europe, I know the world also took notice of the small American city of Ferguson, Missouri -- where a young man was killed, and a community was divided. So, yes, we have our own racial and ethnic tensions. And like every country, we continually wrestle with how to reconcile the vast changes wrought by globalization and greater diversity with the traditions that we hold dear. ....... Republicans dont want President Obama airing Americas dirty laundry on the world stage. I was stunned, said former Vice President Dick Cheney, the erstwhile Obama critic, on Fox News. Obamas reference to Ferguson came toward the end of his 35-minute speech, after he had chastised several other countries riven by war and condemned the Islamic States network of death in unusually blunt terms.
