Poll security in Nepal: EC says no to enlist temporary police KATHMANDU: Constituent Assembly election is only 75 days away but the government and the Election Commission are still at loggerheads over the recruitment of temporary police for poll security. The Ministry of Home Affairs had written to the EC seeking the latter’s consent to enlist 50,000 temporary police to guard the polling booths but the EC rejected the proposal. Almost 1.2 lakh police personnel, including 70,000 temporary police, were deployed for poll security in 2008 when there were 21,000 polling stations. According to Election Commissioner Dolakh Bahadur Gurung, there will be 18,500 polling centres this time.
