Pollard subdivision in Kasilof, located near the Sterling Highway, is under an evacuation readiness advisory, according to the Alaska Interagency Incident Management Team. Central Emergency Services spokesperson Brad Nelson says that reports claiming an evacuation was ordered are incorrect. He said improving wind conditions, which for a while were pushing flames closer to the neighborhood, improved slightly around 1:30 p.m. That prevented a call for residents to leave. People who live in the neighborhood are instead being told to prepare by gathering everything essential like medication and enough clothes to last a few days in case officials request an evacuation in the near future.
