Polls in Kashmir no substitute for UN Plebiscite: Hilal War Election a Non-Issue in the eyes of U.N.O. Srinagar, November 26: Terming elections in the disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir a non issue in the eyes of UNO, the People’s Political Party (PPP) Chairman and All Parties Hurriyat Conference Senior Leader, Engineer Hilal Ahmad War, has reiterated his party stand that elections in the disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir cannot be substitute to a U.N. Plebiscite as guaranteed by UNO in view of two resolutions passed by UN Security Council wherein India is a signatory. “It is our Principal stand and we will continue our just struggle for the attainment of right to self-determination for Jammu and Kashmir,” War added. While making these observations in a meeting with his party colleagues at his party office he said with confidence that no power on earth can substitute UN plebiscite by elections in the disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir as long as UNO exists and functions under United Nations Charter. “Portraying elections in Jammu and Kashmir a referendum is nothing but denying the very existence of UNO. The position of UN Security Council viz-a-viz elections is clear and categorical that purpose of elections in disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir is to set up a temporary administrative machinery to provide basic amenities like Water, Electricity, Education etc. to the civilian population of the disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir not to decide the political future of the people of the territory. Therefore, UNO has declared elections in the disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir a non-issue as far as resolution of Jammu and Kashmir Dispute are concerned.” Press and Information, Secretary, PPP
