Polly Bergen Dies; Emmy-Winning Actress Was 84 Polly Bergen, an Emmy-winning actress and singer who starred in dozens of productions over the last six decades, has passed away at the age of 84. She died at home in Southbury, Conn. No cause of death was immediately known. Bergen starred in dozens of films such as Cape Fear, Kisses for My President and Cry-Baby, having made her Broadway debut all the way back in 1953. Polly also enjoyed a wide-ranging television career, having appeared on To Tell The Truth and hosting her own variety series in the late 1950s. Bergens Emmy win came after her role as Helen Morgan in 1957 in Playhouse 90. She won for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie. Most recently, she starred in The Sopranos, Commander in Chief and Desperate Housewives, earning an Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy nomination.
