Pompeii / Endeavor Space Shuttle Ride – Saturday, November 1st 700 Exposition Park Dr., Los Angeles We are schedule for two tours; at 11:00 am our 1st tour is the Pompeii Exhibit: (this exhibit is on loan from Italy till the end of Dec) - In the year 79 A.D., Pompeii vanished beneath thick layers of volcanic ash left by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. But what nature destroyed, it also preserved. Pompeii: The Exhibition features over 150 precious artifacts on loan from the Naples National Archaeological Museum in Italy, which offer a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle and tragic end of this ancient Roman society forgotten for centuries until its rediscovery over 250 years ago. From garden frescoes and marble statues to gladiator armor, coins and currency to religious altars and shrines — all set in their original surroundings — experience daily life in this once vibrant Roman city. Then, as the floors shake and the walls rumble, relive the volcano’s catastrophic eruption through an immersive CGI experience, culminating in the reveal of full body casts of twisted human forms, asphyxiated by extreme heat and noxious gases and forever frozen in time. Through excavated artifacts, multimedia experiences, and hands-on science exhibits, guests will learn the science of archaeology, volcanology, and Roman engineering while exploring the ancient civilization of Pompeii. at 1:00 pm our 2nd tour is the Endeavor Space Shuttle: The California Story celebrates Endeavour’s many scientific achievements and its strong connection to California, where all the orbiters were built. The California Story includes images of Endeavour under construction locally in Palmdale and Downey, as well as artifacts that flew into space aboard Endeavour. Dramatic video In the Samuel Oschin Pavilion, guests will be able to see Endeavour up close and discover some of the science behind this amazing vehicle. The pavilion will feature images and video to introduce guests to Endeavour’s past missions and the crews who flew them. Endeavour - Orbiter Vehicle-105 completed 25 missions into space, including the first service mission to the Hubble Space Telescope and the first mission to add a U.S.-built component to the International Space Station. SPACEHAB - Serving as a workshop for astronauts, the SPACEHAB gave astronauts extra room to live and work in space. SSME - Still the most advanced, efficient rocket engine in the world, space shuttle main engines helped push the shuttle up to orbit.
