Pondering the question of why I dislike religion so much is a good - TopicsExpress

Pondering the question of why I dislike religion so much is a good Sunday morning activity. I have concluded that faith is the root cause of my dislike of religion. All religions require faith which, by definition, is belief without evidence. Believing anything without evidence is a slippery slope. A belief in God or some supernatural entity provides an easy answer for things we do not understand, but it perpetuates our ignorance if we stop looking for natural explanations. On down the slippery slope it becomes easy to believe the Bible is the word of God, even though we know that it was written by a bunch of misogynistic men. Sliding down the slippery slope and off a cliff we reach the point where we believe that some individual or religion speaks for God or interprets what the bible means, and we will believe or do whatever they tell us. By this point we have long ago given up logic, reason, and the desire for evidence to support our beliefs. Faith requires the suspension of logic and reason, and the need for evidence. Faith is why I dislike religion.
