Poor Don. I came home with strawberries, blueberries, broccoli, - TopicsExpress

Poor Don. I came home with strawberries, blueberries, broccoli, cauliflower, yellow squash, zucchini, carrots, a pineapple, onions, two baking sweet potatoes, corn on the cob, fresh spinach, romaine, cherry tomatoes, a cantaloupe, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, cucumbers, peaches, sweet peas and green beans! Agonized and did a lot of pacing in the meat section....is it just me or have prices really shot up this year? Ended up buying a turkey that I will roast....and Ill freeze a lot of it in small ziplocks so I can just grab a bag when I want to cook something. I can do a lot with turkey.....soups, salads, casseroles, sammies. I dont eat that much meat these days...but Don does. Eggs were only .79 a dozen, so we got two of those. The only thing I am really buying jarred now is peanut butter and spaghetti sauce, and canned...coffee and tomatoes (cheaper to buy tomatoes than for me to put up preserves) Trying to eliminate boxed/canned foods as much as possible. Eating a lot more alternative grains too. So far weve decided we like quinoa and tabouleh. Bread is hard...I love good bread. But other than a sammie once in a while...Ive done well with that too. Eventually I want to make the bulk of the bread we do eat myself. I used to do it...just need to get back into it. Salts been cut back a lot simply because we eat more fresh....using more herbs when I cook. Ah well, its a work in progress.
