Poor Gertie is just not doing well. She didnt Thursday night or Friday morning, but did eat some Friday night. I had to work this morning, so Jim fed her later than usual this morning, and she did eat. This evening I had a little trouble getting her to eat, but she eventually did eat it all. Her circling isnt any better, in fact I think its a little worse. She is just as confused. Jim found her wandering all over the yard, way down the other end of the yard Thurs. evening. I think she got lost and couldnt find her way back to the porch. The Vet had increased her selegiline dose, and she just finished the antibiotic for the UTI. Shes also on a new eye drop with antibiotics and steroids in it. Her not wanting to eat could be any of those meds. Ive decided to hold the selegiline for a few days to see if it makes any difference. Im not convinced it is helping her dementia, and if it is upsetting her tummy, theres no sense in keeping her on it. Im worried about her, and think shes in a slow downward slide toward the end. Shes skinny and bony, more than she ever used to be, despite her weight being about stable. Shes getting the same amount of food we gave Scoutie (4 oz. of raw), but Scout was 1 1/2 times her size, so I dont know why shes so skinny. Tilley only gets 2 oz of raw, as comparison, and she and Gertie weigh the same (just a little over 11 lbs). Shes about 12 years old (we think) and lived her first 7 years in a puppy mill. Shes had quite a cushy life with us since we adopted her a little over 5 years ago. I know weve done our best for her, but Im trying to get my head around the possibility of losing another one so soon after losing Scoutie. I wont let her suffer, and if theres the slightest sign that she is suffering, I wont hesitate to take her to be put to sleep, but just dont want to have to face that yet. Fingers crossed that she has some good quality time left.
