Poor Robin Williams. He was just a regular guy. I got to know - TopicsExpress

Poor Robin Williams. He was just a regular guy. I got to know him for about an hour when I was at NYU. I was working at The Comedy Cellar and he stopped by to test some new material. The famous people usually just popped in and did their thing and left. But he didnt want to interrupt the lineup and waited until the end to go on. He hid backstage and waited. I brought him dinner from the restaurant next door and kept him company in the stairwell as he ate it. We talked about college and living in New York. He invited me to the movie set he was on at the time. I told him I couldnt go - I think I had a test the next day. He was impressed that I was working as a waitress until 3 AM and would then get up for morning classes. The main thing I remember was that he kept asking me if I needed to go back to work - he didnt want me to get in trouble. I explained that the owner told me to just take care of him and that my tables were covered. He asked me if I had eaten and told me to order something for myself. He even looked for me when he was leaving to say thanks. Just a nice normal guy. He did make a few funny comments to me during that hour, but nothing like the outrageous, over-the-top, totally hilarious and wild guy he became when he got on stage. Rest in Peace.
