Poor little Apollo gave us a shock last night. Both of us were sat in the lounge typing away at our laptops doing assignments. Apollo was on the floor at the side of the sofa playing with a kong and our husky laying near him. Our other naughty dog was sat the other side of the room well out of the way. All of a sudden we heard a horrendous scream from Apollo and both of us threw our laptops down to grab him. He had already jumped up to try and hide near us on the sofa. Poor little mite was panicking for a good 10 minutes, couldnt settle, would cry when we tried to touch him and was hyper salivating... a lot! I tried to check limbs for limps, spinal injuries etc while he was wiggling around but he was so upset. Then we saw that the area between his eyes and his nose was swelling quickly and once he stopped panicking he was snuffling. As you can imagine, we were distraught, we had no idea what happened! I couldnt examine him until he stopped being so upset, but all sorts ran through my mind. I guess being an ex Vet nurse can make you imagine the worst! We were thinking had our husky bitten him (not like her at all), maybe some nasty bug? Had he broken the mandibular synthesis of his jaw (common in small breeds)... we even checked if we had lost any of our snakes (non of them are venomous dont worry) which wouldnt be possible since they are in a sealed room, inside locked enclosures. We were stumped! The other two dogs were in shock. He quickly settled down and was back to normal, besides his little bump and snuffled every now and again. He was even eating, drinking and back to playing within half hour. He saw a vet I used to work with today and she was left scratching her head.... there is no bite mark at all (dog, bug, or even snake) or any sort of wound other than a swollen nose! Im a little shocked... but thankfully Apollo is perfectly fine and I think hes forgotten the whole dilemma! Yeh so the little sod has confused us all... At least hes ok :) xxx
