Poor maintenance can cause problems for any vehicle during a cold winter. Maintenance tips for alternative fuel vehicles (LPG) and petrol vehicles Before winter an ignition service is recommended, Spark plugs should be inspected (plug leads distributor caps and rota arms or coil pack look for small cracks) all electrical components should be checked, adjusted or replaced at regular intervals. It is recommended that spark plugs be changed at 15k miles or twelve months, and if you are using NGK plugs close the gaps by 0.2mm and use a spark plug with a higher heat range for example a BCPR6ES would change to a BCPR5ES Single electrode plug gap size smaller than 0.62mm we recommended you reduce this gap size by 0.075mm narrower than normal Test plug leads by spraying a fine mist of water on them using a pump type applicator at night. Check for arcing by holding the insulated end of a screwdriver with the shaft on the engine and the point about 2-3mm from each plug lead not forgetting the king lead if arcing occurs replace all leads. Check distributor cap, rotor arm and coil for faults rectify or replace as necessary. Check crankcase breathers and idle, air control pipes for splits and cracks replace if needed. Check every 15k miles or twelve months. Replace air filter element at regular intervals. Use WD40 or a similar product to protect electrical connections from water ingress and to stop rust youtube/watch?v=JBy-FeyDgf0
