Poor visibility in snow and blowing snow is expected or occurring - TopicsExpress

Poor visibility in snow and blowing snow is expected or occurring in some locations. A fast moving Alberta clipper now located over North Dakota has brought approximately 2 centimetres of snow to portions of southern Saskatchewan through the overnight hours. Winds are beginning to increase out of the northwest as a strong ridge of high pressure quickly builds in behind the clipper system. Sustained winds as high as 60 km/h and gusts up to 80 km/h will combine with the freshly fallen snow and existing loose snowpack. This will cause widespread reduced visibilities in blowing snow to less than 800 metres at times throughout the day. Winds are expected to diminish over the western regions this afternoon and the eastern regions this evening. Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations. Visibility may be significantly and suddenly reduced to near zero. Weather Advisories for blowing snow are issued when winds are expected to create blowing snow giving poor visibility to 800 metres or less for at least 3 hours.
