Poppa and I are both so very glad he choose to not wear his flip-flops and not to go commando when he donned his overalls today! Whew! Yesterday Poppa and the boys were taking one of the many daily strolls down the drive when Poppa heard a crack and had just enough time to scoop Caleb up to safety, yep, the branch wouldve hit him smack on. Caleb took no time at all exclaiming Poppa, you saved my life! It didnt end there though, Caleb from that point on kept thinking he was hearing branches snap and was becoming a bit paranoid of the old dead Oak...Poppa had already decided it had become too dangerous and needed to come down, and so it did...today. This tree was huge! It was nerve wrecking getting it down but Poppa finally fell it and even missed the horse barn in doing so, I took video and it was scarey for me just doing that at a distance. At one point I thought about how bad it would be to get cut with the chain saw, smashed by the tree even and even just slapped by one of its massive branches. Ive watched him fall many and neither me or him were ever nervous to any degree mentionable. Even when he cut one and it didnt fall until at least a week later! Ha! After the tree was down the boys pounced on it, TESTOSTERONE! WE HAVE CONQUERED THE WICKED TREE! Or had we? Now the clearing of the driveway so we could travel it...and Poppa began cutting up the branches, with the chainsaw...his boot as well. UGG! His foot slipped after a branch gave, right under the chainsaw! Off to the hospital! Into surgery! The doctor managed to save his large toe by packing what little was left of his bone with an artificial bone putty and he placed a pin in it, there is no tendon there and no toenail but the toe is still there and hopefully the bone will rejuvenate. He was in such good spirits the whole time he even realized thankfully as the nurses stripped him down to his shorts that he had actually worn underwear today! Ahahaha! And had he worn flip-flops as he has so often while cutting up limbs, ohhhh dont even want to think about it! Hes in the hospital for at least an overnight stay, they are pumping him full of antibiotics because his chainsaw wasnt clean and because I think the doctor wants to keep an eye on the lucky toe for a bit. He was awake and very, very happy when we left, the stuff will wear off by morning though. lol Me and the boys are home now, since it rained though we couldnt drive the pasture in so we had to park at the downed wicked Oak tree and walk the rest of the way. I almost promise I heard it whisper something wicked as I stepped over its branches so I called it a name and said, it aint over yet... I grabbed Poppas cell phone which is now soaked and hopefully still in working condition and trekked home, without Poppa. :( So how was your day? lol Yall talk to your angels, thank the Big Man, remember it could always be worse and count your blessings for sure! Well leave the light on as always... xoxoxo nite yall! -lisa
