Popping in Marguerite Duras LE CAMION--thanks, Ron Salvatore! I have sought this film since the Easter morning when my mother gave me Pauline Kaels WHEN THE LIGHTS GO DOWN, and a chocolate rabbit, as Easter presents. One of the pieces I associate with that books chocolatey sweetness is Kaels takedown of STAR WARS, which she juxtaposes against Duras LE CAMION. I later found out that as a member of the Cannes jury, Kael fought--this is so insane I can barely type the words--to get a special prize for Marguerite Duras for LE CAMION...AND...she was cockblocked in that endeavor...by ROBERTO ROSSELLINI! Alors. Marguerite lit le scenario. Depardieu ecoute. And le camion? It keeps on truckin, baby!
