Popsicolor: Comments & Tips Popsicolor is not a subtle effect. I understand that folks are having some difficulty with it. I think youll find, however, that there ways to make it real effective. First, get into the controls and options. I for one always like apps that have randomizers, like the Shuffle button in Popsicolor, because you can often find really cool settings by just taking a risk. Try looking at the Enhance and Ink-tensity controls, if you want to increase an images detail. Also, play with Duotone, which really adds something to images that might not work at first. And as some have pointed out and discovered, Popsicolor does work as part of a workflow using several apps. You can use it as an effect and blend or layer it with either the source image, or with others. I find it useful for generating elements to be combined into large pieces, or blended pieces, or collages. But my real thought here about what works in Popsicolor is this: choose your source image carefully. Images that seem to work best are ones with a high graphic element: strong lines, strong shapes, powerful composition. A lot of folks have been using portraits of people, and that seems to work well, too. So the other kind of image that seems to work well, is strong content, either a strong story or a strong portrait or character study. Again, Popsicolor is not a subtle effect (although it can be, if you dig in deeper). So think about the images you might want to use with it. Image: The historic State Theater in Ann Arbor, MI. This image was made during the Ann Arbor Art Fair in July, when the streets are full of art, color, people, flags, tents, food and music. (Im biased, but I think its one of the best street art fairs in the Midwest.)
