Portable device to detect adverse events of Methotrexate A team - TopicsExpress

Portable device to detect adverse events of Methotrexate A team of Canadian scientists have devised a portable device to detect the adverse effects of Methotrexate, in less than a minute. Conventional diagnostic device may take up to 30 minutes to detect drug toxicity level. The tool is ten times less expensive than existing diagnostic devices. Known as plasmon resonance, the nanoscale optimal system device rapidly estimates the optimal, personalized dosage of methotrexate in cancer patients. The technique might reduce the adverse events of chemotherapy. Plasmon resonance estimates serum methotrexate levels using GOLD nanoparticles. Binding of drug molecules to receptors lead to luminescence that corresponds to blood drug concentration. Precise and timely determination of blood methotrexate concentration might help the clinicians to adjust the chemotherapy dose, the researchers wrote in the publication.
