Porter Surname Spencer County Order Book B continued..... March 8, 1830 The court doth assign Elijah WEEKS guardian to Rebecca BURDITT, Elizabeth BURDITT and Louisa BURDITT, infant heirs of Benjamin BURDITT, dec’d. Whereupon the said Elijah WEEKS, together with Nicholas PORTER his security here in open court entered into and acknowledged bond in the penalty of five hundred dollars with conditions according to law. May 14, 1830 John PORTER is appointed Captain and William PORTER and George N. CARICO are appointed patrollers in the second patroller district in this county, who are to patrol not exceeding twelve hours in each month. July 12, 1830 Ordered that the boundaries of constable district No. 1 in this county be so changed or altered as to include the present residence of John G. PORTER. John G. PORTER is appointed a constable in this county in constables district No. 1 in the room of Daniel Morgan. And thereupon the said John G. PORTER came into court and had the necessary oaths of office administered to him and together with Stilwell HEADY and John HUSTON, his securities, here in open court entered into and acknowledged their bond in the penalty of $2000, with conditions according to law. October 11, 1830 On the motion of John R. PORTER who made oath and together with William BURNETT and Thomas NEWMAN his securities, here in open court executed and acknowledged bond in the penalty of $400, conditioned as the law directs, a certificate is granted the said John G. PORTER for obtaining letters of administration of the estate of Charles S. DARNE, DEC’D, in due form of law. November 8, 1830 Nathan COCHRAN is appointed overseer of the road from Joseph McGEE’S mill by Nicholas PORTERS mill to the county line towards Mount Washington in the room of Orson SPARKS, and it is ordered etc. January 10, 1831 Bonds of hands was this day filed and allotted by the court to work on the road from Joseph S. McGEE’S mill to Nicholas PORTER’S mill and from thence to intersect the Bullitt county line the most direct way to Mount Washington. March 14, 1831 John G. PORTER is appointed a commissioner of the tax in this county in the third commissioner’s district, and thereupon the said John G. PORTER together with Stilwell HEADY his security, here in open court entered into and acknowledged their bond in the penalty of $500.00 with conditions according to law. September 12, 1831 Archibald PATTERSON appl. Against Nicholas PORTER, appee. Upon an appeal from the judgment of Jesse FLOYD, Esquire, a Justice of the Peace. Archibald PATTERSON appl against John PEERCE, appee, upon an appeal form the judgment of Jesse FLOYD, Esquire, a Justice of the Peace. Ordered that these appeals be continued until the next court. November 14, 1831 A writing purporting to be the last will and testament of Philip PORTER, dec’d, was proved by the oaths of John c. BURNETT, James STONE and John HUSTON, witnesses thereto and is ordered to be recorded. And on the motion of James PORTER one of the executors therein named who made oath thereto and together with James STONE, John HUSTON, James TICHENOR and Stilwell HEADY his securities, entered into and acknowledged their bond in the penalty of $8000 conditioned as t he law directs, certificate is granted him for obtaining probate of the said will in due form. John G. PORTER the other executor appeared in court and refused to take upon himself the burden of the execution thereof. Ordered that John SHOEMAKER, James WEST, William BURNETT and William SCOTT, or any three of them being first sworn before a Justice of the Peace do truly and justly appraise the slaves if any and personal estate of Philip PORTER, dec’d, and return the appraisement under their hands to the court. November 15, 1831 To William E. PORTER for patrolling 144 hours 6.00 To John G. PORTER, captain for patrolling 144 hours 8.00 December 12, 1831 Paid S. PREWITT per voucher #27, $1.50; paid Jno. G. Porter per Voucher #28, $1.50 An inventory and appraisement of the estate of Philip PORTER, dec’d was returned and ordered to be recorded.
