Portia Ann Lalonde is the 20th recipient of my bucket list initiative of a $1000 gift. On October 10th 2014, Portia, who was several months pregnant at the time, her daughter Meghan Magano 7 and husband 26 year old Michael Lalonde were in a horrific vehicle accident north of Toronto. Michael died at the scene, and 7 year old Meghan was very seriously injured and now is in a recovery center. Portia was released from the hospital shortly after the accident. https://youtube/watch?v=BRAuZz0CEsI On Friday December 19th, Portia had her baby boy (Liam) at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Hamilton. We visited with Portia on Sunday afternoon. Portia’s daughter Meghan is improving and learning how to walk and talk again although her right side is very weak. Portia and Meghan will be staying at a Toronto rehabilitation centre for another few months until Meghan’s condition improves. Meghan is doing very well considering the severity of the accident and her injuries but her recovery is still a very slow process. She cannot get up without help, if she bangs her head it could cause further significant damage, so they always have to be on guard with her. Portia lives in Hamilton and can’t work right now given the tragic circumstances. She has received some help with baby items from a recently held baby shower but the financial burden she is currently facing is significant.
