Position Announcement: Post-Doc Energy models in the electric system decision making. Humphrey School of Public Affairs is searching for a post doc to work with our interdisciplinary team on the role of models in energy system decision making. A suite of different electricity system models are used by regional transmission organizations, utilities, public utility commissions, industries, and now the courts to evaluate, direct and determine billions of dollars in energy system investments. This project will work to understand which models are used, for what purposes, and explore how they are being used in electric system decision making. Today, models are used to estimate system costs and benefits, determine system function and reliability, and shape stakeholder engagement. The successful post doc candidate will survey the literature on modeling and decision making, review the electricity system models currently used used, analyze their assumptions and use, and catalog and evaluate the types of decisions being made using these tools. Finally, the researcher will present a series of critical overviews different energy model use. The post-doc will also work with our interdisciplinary team on to evaluate how rural energy consumers and utilities can work to integrate demand and supply. Candidate should be well versed with multiple social science research methods and be familiar with the electricity system.
