Positive Economic Development;Many of you would have heard of the Cinque Terre, Hoover dam, Otago Rail Trail and some maybe the Toro walk well what do you think? Forget the Napier to Gisborne rail link as it has been, but now picture it as a “cultural Cycle Path” tracing the passage of Ngati Kahangungu from Wharerata to Napier. The formation of this pathway could bring real economic development to Napier and Hawkes Bay/ Poverty Bay. This would be the only cycle way that has airport access at both ends. Work in partnership with iwi and hapu to create the cultural pathway, where marae provide accommodation, food and a cultural experience, where local farmers convert their woolshed or shearers quarters into accommodation and provide food from the land or sea. Where small townships like Mahia, Morere, Nuhaka, Raupunga, Tutira and Eskdale benefit, where Wairoa becomes a vibrant hub and the major cities of Gisborne and Napier have real economic growth. Food, accommodation, bike operators and a linkage to all other attractions, gannets, wine trails, a vibrant Marine Parade, National Aquarium, Museum and Art gallery that all benefit from the influx of people who would utilise this attraction. Seek the support of the central government and this one venture alone could kick start our economy. Soon people will be talking not only of the Central Otago Rail trail but the Eastern Cultural Trail. What do you think?
