Addressing any correlation between the 2010 #BP Gulf Coast Oil Spill and the beached whale, both Patrick and Cake said that whether the oil spill had anything to do with the whales demise cannot be determined at this time. Because the investigation is still ongoing, we cannot determine if the oil spill has affected this animal, Patrick said. Results from the gross exam could possibly point to replications that oil was involved in the animals death if there was oil on the outside or under the organs, according to Cake, but the necropsy is a rigid procedure used to find pollutants that can be documented and fingerprinted if oil is found on or inside the mammal.
