Possibly for the first time on Team Angel no news hasnt meant good news. No news has meant... leave the image of a good Thanksgiving in the hearts of Team Angel for another day before sharing the swing again. ;) Not intentionally, of course. More of an emotional exhaustion and disappointment. Angel continues to spike fevers, requiring blood transfusions, platelets, albumin, IV antibiotics, IV antifungals, Neupogen and very close management. He began to stool blood quite a bit again and his outputs are very high. After three negative cultures for Adenovirus, the recent one was positive again. This means his transplanted intestine is still contending with the virus. His counts remain low despite Neupogen and this means his bone marrow is depleted significantly. It cant even create the cells any more. Some of that is the aftermath of chemo/cancer, some of that is the medications hes on, and some of that is the infections that use up all the cells rapidly. A bleeding, damaged intestine leaking bacteria into the bloodstream is life threatening. And even more so when the Bone Marrow cant produce the cells to fight infection. That is why he keeps spiking fevers. Right now it is a daily cycle of putting back what is lost, fighting off what his body cant, watching closely to prevent bad things, and keeping him as comfortable and happy as we can. This includes planning for a special birthday party very soon. (Angel is a BIG planner.) Speaking of which.... It is our friend, Vanessa, who is organizing the cards for Angels birthday. (I am Sarah, Angels mom. :) ) She is also the one who has organized and asked permission to post fundraisers. Her son is battling Leukemia and she is an amazing lady. So please email her with Angels Birthday Cards in the subject if you would still like to send some love: [email protected]
