Post No - 19 - Cholanadu Divyadesams in Kumbakonam Thirukannamangai Bakthvatsala Perumal Temple Pancha Krishna Kshetram Sabtha Amrudha and Mandhra Siddhi Kshetram Thirukannamangai Bhaktavatsala Perumal Divyadesam is just about 25 KM south of Thirucherai Saranatha Perumal Divyadesam on the way to Thiruvarur. Its is one of the Krishna Mangala Kshetram. Goddess lakshmi Devi performed a penance here towards the ALMIGHTY to attain HIM. Pleased Paranthaman known as Vishwaksena ( HIS Security ) to look out for an auspicious day for the wedding. On that day the ALMIGHTY married Thayar here in Thirukannamangai Divyadesam. All the 33 Crore Devas came together to witness the wedding and they were overwhelmed on seeing the ALMIGHTY alongwith Thayar in their wedding posture and took the form of Bees and stayed here from then. Even today devotees can see the Harmless Bees in Thayar Sannidhi. This is an Unique feature of this Divyadesam. Since Lakshmi married the ALMIGHTY, the place is being worshipped as “Krishna Mangala Kshetram”. One of the disciple and a sincere devotee of Sreeman Nathamuni, named as Kannamangai Andan resided inside the temple and performed service here for so mnay years. Hence the place is called as “Thirukannamangai”. It is said that Kannamangai Andan took the form of a Dog went inside the Garpakraham, joined the ALMIGHTY and attained Moksham in the Day of Thiruvonam Star in Aani month. Special statue of Vaikundanathan and Lord Maha Vishnu on top of Periya Thiruvadu Garudan are the special features of this Divyadesam. It is strongly believed by the devotees Lord Shiva is said to be protecting this place from every sides and if any one stays here for even one night will attain Moksham. Chandhran by worshipping the ALMIGHTY here in Thirukannamanagai Divyadesam got cured from the curse which he obtained by having love with Thara, wife of Guru Bhagwan. Thirukkannamangai is is a Mandhra Sidhi Kshetram. Namathraya Mandhra Japam is very special here. Varunan got back his Pasayudaham from the Demon Ravana after performing the penance here. Markandeya got the boon to remain deathless ( Chiranjeevi ) by performing the penance in this Divyadesam. There is a big Holy Tank - Pushkarini in front of the temple is being worshipped as Dharshana Pushkarini and Vishnu Padha Gangai. There are sannidhis of Sree Ramanujar, Koorathazhwar, Lord Hanuman and Lord Sreenivasan. Periya Thiruvadi Garudalwar facing the ALMIGHTY in a standing posture with folded hands and Sangu ( Conch ) and Chakra. He fulfills the requests of the devotees completely especially overcome the obstacle in getting married. On Sundays , Thursday and On Swathi Nakshatra Days Thirumanjanam and Amirtha Kalasa Naivethyam are performed. Thayar Abhisekavalli is in Resident Posture. Andal Sannidhi is found in North and Swarga Vaasal is seen on the south Pragaram. Alongside of this Swrga Vaasal devotees can find Swamy Desikan, Navaneedha Krishnan and Kothanda Ramar. While enetering to Perumal Sannidhi, there is an expansive Maha Mandapam supported by four pillars and an Artha Mandapam. It is believed that ALMIGHTY married Thayar here in this Maha Mandapam in the presence of Lord Brahma Devar. Four pillars are Four Vedas. The four tiered tower of the temple resembles a reversed Utpala Flower ( The Lotus ), hence it is known as Utpala Vadhaga Vimanam. When Devas and Asuras churning the Parkadal to obtain the Nectar. Mahalakshmi came out after Parijatha Flower, Kamadhenu, the Divine Cow and Chandhra Bhagwan. She wanted to marry Paranthaman. She was so shy to rveal his desire to the ALMIGHTY. Hence she performed a penance here in Krishnarayam. At last ALMIGHTY came and married here in Thirukannanmangai. Since Maha Lakshmi underwent penance here this place is also called as “Lakshmi Vanam” ( Vanam means Kaadu in Tamil ). Perumal here relieved Chandran from his curse. Since Perumal here helps HIS Bhkatha out of his Vatsalya, he is being worshipped as “Bhaktavatsalan”. The temple was referred in Silapathiharam. Its one of the Pancha Krishnaranya Kshetram. Thirukannamangai Divyadesam has all the Seven Necessities of a Kshetram whcih are Theertham ( Temple Tank ), Vimanam, Mandapam, River, Nagaram ( City ) , Nadhi ( River ), and Aaranyam ( Forest ), hence the temple is being worshipped as “Saptha Amrutha Kshetram“. Thirumangai Azhwar hymned his Last 10 Pasurams here in Thirukannamangai and also added that those who recite all the 10 Pasurams on Thirukannamangai would attain Moksham and reach Vaikundham. Beside he went on saying that Lord HIMSELF should learn these pasurams. It is strongly believed that to fulfill Thirumangai Azhwar’s wish, Perumal was born as Periyavachan Pillai ( On Avani Month Rogini Star – same as Lord Krishnan ) and Thirumangai Azhwar as his Guru Nampillai ( on Karthigai Month Karthigai Star – same as Thirumangai Azhwar ). It’s an Unique feature of this Thirukannamangai Bhaktavatsala Perumal Temple.
